What is “TOKYO Besties”?
“TOKYO Besties” are a team of young Tokyo residents who promote the charm of Tokyo and its must-visit spots from their own perspectives. Through their eyes, global audiences will discover a side of Tokyo they’ve never seen before.
About the “TOKYO Besties” Team Members
The “TOKYO Besties” team was selected from a great number of applicants who all share a love for Tokyo and are excited to share the best bits of the city with the world. Applicants were required to be between the ages of 13 and 22. This year’s members range from high school students to university students with diverse backgrounds, including having lived abroad.
Despite their varied perspectives and experiences, they have a common goal: to share the charm of Tokyo with the world.
Skill-Building Through Workshops
The members gathered for the first time at a kickoff workshop. The session focused on how to deliver content effectively, including content planning and basic video editing techniques.
During the field trip, the members visited local spots to shoot videos and photos. They also engaged in discussions about their favorite parts of Tokyo, exploring how to promote the city’s appeal by combining their own viewpoints with global perspectives.
Creating Content Through Activities
The “TOKYO Besties” team visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building’s observatory, located 202 meters above ground, to experience the view as it transformed from day, to dusk, to night. At the South observatory, they enjoyed the “How to ‘Hello Tokyo’ CAPSULE,” a giant capsule toy featuring Hello Kitty’s travel etiquette tips (available from August 1 to 31, 2025).
In the evening, they also enjoyed “TOKYO Night & Light”, a projection-mapped display (permanent) with Guinness World Records™ certification, capturing the city’s magical nighttime atmosphere on video.
On September 14, the team collaborated with creator JESSE for a special shoot. They chose Togoshi Ginza shopping street as a location they would recommend to foreigners. When guiding bilingual creator JESSE, members were a bit nervous but carefully chose their words, doing their best to convey the warm atmosphere of Shopping Street. Throughout the shooting, their lively interactions and thoughtful communication successfully showcased the charm of Togoshi Ginza.
